You can assign modules to specific students or sections. You can also add prerequisites for accessing the module and requirements for progressing through the module items.

Assign Modules To Specific students or sections

By default, modules are still assigned to everyone in the course, but it is now possible to assign modules to specific students and sections. To assign a module click the “Three Dot Menu” icon [1] on the module title, and then click the “Assign To” link [2].

On the “Assign To” tab, instructors can set the module visibility to Everyone, specific students, or sections of students.

Note: Currently, Canvas does not provide the shortcut to be able to assign modules to a specific group. Sections are not the same as groups. Hopefully, that functionality is coming soon, but in the meantime, you must manually add each student associated with the group manually.

Add Module Prerequisites

You can also add prerequisites to a module, which will prevent the module from being visible until another module has been completed.
Note: The prerequisite option will only be available if you have created at least two modules.

You can add Requirements to the module, which lay out actions that students must complete in order to progress through the module. For example, you can require that a student must view a content page and score a certain score on a quiz in the module before moving to the next items.
Add a requirement by clicking the settings icon and selecting Edit.

Edit module

Click the Add Requirement link. You'll notice that items must already be added to a module in order for requirements to be set up. You can then specify whether students must complete all of the requirements set, or only one. You also have the option to enforce students to progress through the requirements in sequential order; but this option is only available if you specify that students complete all of the requirements.
Select the item from the first dropdown, and then select the action that is required in the second dropdown. Repeat this process for additional requirements.
Click the Update Module button when you're done.
